The Project
Pollution Prevention and Waste Minimisation
of Small Scale Industries in Kolkata Metropolis Area
Considering the background situation as illustrated, the project
was conceived and prepared to improve the overall environment of
the Kolkata and its surrounding area. The project for
facilitating changeover to cleaner fuel and construction of CETP
were prepared after due consideration of dire necessity of
financial assistance required to be provided to such stakeholders.
The stakeholders were taken into confidence while preparing the
project.
Project objectives
Financial assistance will be provided for
- Phasing out of coal fired small boilers operating in KMC area with combustion efficient cleaner fuel (oil or gas) fired ones
- Adoption of end of pipe treatment for Galvanising units of Howrah by setting up of a Common Effluent Treatment Plant

Project budget
Total project cost = Rs. 16.49 crores
ICEF contribution = Rs. 4.80 crores
WBPCB = Rs. 4.18 crores
Stakeholders contribution = Rs. 7.51 crores
Status of the project
A Steering Committee consisting of representatives from State Government, WBPCB, ICEF, Industry Associations and academic institutions will review the status of the project time to time.
