World Environment Day Celebrations

World Environment Day (WED), celebrated every year on the 5th of June, is one of the prime means through which mass environmental awareness is stimulated. In 2003, the theme was "Water - Two Billion People are Dying for it!". This theme had been chosen to support the United Nations International Year of Freshwater, 2003. Over the years, the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) has undertaken a host of events to commemorate this special day. This year, Shri Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal and Shri Manabendra Mukherjee, Minister-in-Charge, Environment & Information Technology, Government of West Bengal, were part of the WED celebrations of WBPCB. The following key events marked the celebrations of WED 2003:
