In order to create awareness for nature and promote an understanding of the concepts of biodiversity, a special awareness programme was organised for the visually challenged children. 95 students from three blind schools, namely Lighthouse for the Blind, Blind Boy’s Academy (Narendrapur) and Calcutta Blind School (Behala) participated in the campaign. This programme, which was jointly organised by Birla Industrial Technological Museum (BITM) at their campus on July 10, 2003, included these unique features:

• Identification exercises of birds by their calls;
• Presentation by Shri Arup Chakraborty, an adept blind birdwatcher;
• Identification of sound sources for students of Class V and below;
• Sensing the smell of nature for students of classes VIII to X;
• Tactile game titled "Touch and Find" and
• Visits to the museum galleries of BITM.
