Biomedical Waste Management

Authorisation for Biomedical waste:


The Government of India published Biomedical Waste (Management and Handling) Rules in the year 1998. According to the said Rule, any activity defined by the following criteria shall have to obtain authorisation from the Board. 

Criterion 1
Every occupier of an institution genereting, collecting, receiving, storing, transporting, treating, disposing and / or handling biomedical wastes in any other manner, except such occupier of clinics, dispensaries, pathological laboratories, blood banks providing treatment/service to less than 1000 (One thousand) patients per month, shall make an application in Form - I to the Board for grant of authorisation.
Criterion 2
Every operator of a biomedical waste facility shall make an
application in Form - I to the Board for grant of authorisation.
