Bharat Stage -II in Calcutta West Bengal Govt Introduces Bharat Stage - II norm in the Calcutta Metropolitan Area With Effect From 31st December 2000 instead of 1st November 2000

The mass emission standards (Bharat Stage - II) for vehicles brought for registration in the Calcutta Metropolitan Area on and after 1st November, 2000 in respect of motor cars with sitting capacity of and upto 6 persons (including driver) (both petrol and diesel) and in respect of 4-wheeler passenger vehicles designed to carry more than 6 persons (including driver) (both petrol and diesel) shall be as laid down in Notification No. GSR 77E dated, 31st January, 2000 of the Ministry of Surface Transport, Government of India.


In exercise of powers conferred u/s.20 of Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, and in partial modification of Memorandum No EN/1539/1E-50/2000 dated 31st August, 2000 the State Government hereby directs the authorities in charge of registration of motor vehicles under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 locate in the Calcutta Metropolitan Area to give effect to the decision of the State Board as mentioned above in respect of motor cars and four-wheeler passenger vehicles (both petrol and diesel) as specified in that decision, brought for registration before such authorities in the Calcutta Metropolitan Area on or after 31st December, 2000. Such directions on the authoroties shall apply notwithstanding anything contained in the Motor Vehicles Act. 1988 or the rules made thereunder.
